Seagate has launched the new generation of its SSHD (Solid Storage Hybrid Drive) drives for desktops, as well as a brand new line of SSHD drives for laptops
SSHD is a drive that consists out of a small-capacity SSD and a regular disk drive, combining the low price and the generous capacity of the latter and the speed of the former. The result should be the best of both worlds — a drive that's almost as cheap as a regular plate drive and almost as fast as an SSD
The new, 3.5-inch Seagate Desktop SSHDs come in 1TB and 2TB capacities, with 8GB of it being of the flash variety. The 2.5-inch, 7mm-thin laptop versions also sport 8GB of flash memory, but only come in 500GB and 1TB capacities
