Since the United Nations’ International Telecommunication Union (ITU) convened the World Conference on International Telecommunication in December, concern has been mounting among Internet freedom advocates over efforts to regulate the Internet
These concerns came to a head at the U.S. House of Representatives Communications and Technology Subcommittee’s recent Global Internet hearing. Despite strong U.S. support for a free and open Internet, many worry that the December event is just the beginning of an ongoing effort by the ITU to expand its power and regulate the Web on a global scale.
